I Don’t Keep Up With The Latest Book Trends

If you aren’t careful Booktok and Bookstagram can make you feel like you’re missing out on the next big book release. There always seems to be a popular creator or a friend that’s praising the literary prowess of the next author. No matter how many books you buy or how often you save a new book to add to your TBR (to be read) shelf you’re always going to be one step behind.

Being an avid reader, I’m always on the hunt for something new to add to my bookshelf; When I buy a book it’s with the understanding that I don’t have a timeline to read it. In this regard I’m very much like a mood reader. I have to want a specific genre before I can pick it up. As you can guess this makes keeping up with the latest trends nearly impossible! The thing I love the most about books is that they don’t have a deadline.

My “better late than never” Stack

Screw Book Trends

There is never a time where it’s too early or too late to read anything. That’s the beauty of books. Some people are only reading classics while others are reading newer works; what both readers have in common is the joy of reading. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

For me, it’s important to engage with the new book hype. Through it I can figure out what I might want to read. Whenever I’m feeling a little left out I’ve learned to stop engaging. Feeling pressured to follow the reading trends can really suck the fun out of the act; Avoiding a reading slump is what I’m trying to do. Reading slumps for me can last months, and that’s time I’d rather spend reading, learning and engaging. Circling back to engagement, I’ve added a few reads to my ever growing TBR. All majorly talked about but I haven’t touched yet. These beauties (pictured below) will be coming with me into next year.

A few of 2022’s Popular Books

All the hype these books produced made me want to read them so I bought them. I haven’t been in the mood to read them yet so on my floor they still sit. I’ll get to them in my own time. I know they’ll be just as amazing when I pick them up as when I bought them. I’m excited to allow them the time to shine when I’m ready and I hope you’ll be just as excited to read my reviews on them.

Remember

I feel like I’ve said this a lot, but let me say it again: It is never too late to read a book! I mean look at me and the Saga series, I’m definitely late to the bandwagon but that hasn’t stopped my enjoyment! If you want to keep up with me on the Saga journey please click the highlighted link to see my thoughts on volumes 1-3. If you want to join me on this journey, even better!

It doesn’t matter if goodreads is looking for best read of 2022 votes already (you can follow me here) or that Bookstagram is constantly pushing something new. What matters is that you’ve read what you wanted, when you wanted and you’re happy with that. Not everyone has the time, money or incentive to keep up with every book the second they drop; You’ll find a group that’s reading it when you are.

Happy reading everyone! I hope your TBR has grown, your want to read list is out of control and you’re excited for even more new releases next year.
